Recreational Soccer at Electric City

Recreational soccer: Is that soccer program that is primarily devoted to enjoyment and development of soccer players without the emphasis on travel or high-level competition. The purpose of recreational soccer is to provide an opportunity for the participants to have fun, learn the sport and develop life skills including a lifelong love of the game. (US Youth Soccer Director of Coach and Player Development Manual – Recreational Soccer)

The goal of Electric City’s recreational soccer program is to create an environment where players can grow in their soccer skills while still having fun with friends in the weekly practice and games.  Our program is volunteer-driven and is a great way for parents to get connected to the soccer world and learn about the game along with their players.  We provide paid trainers that help the players learn the important skills needed in-game and provide support and equipment needed by the parents who lead our recreational teams.

At the early levels of the program (4U/6U), the program focuses primarily on the development of skills and physical abilities.  As the players advance (8U/10U/12U), they form teams with whom they practice and play games.  Electric City is part of a local recreational league that plays in the  Appleton/Kimberly/Neenah area and travel is limited.  See below for descriptions of what to expect at each of the levels.

Electric City has two primary locations where we operate, Kaukauna and Sherwood.  If we have enough interest, we can have Rec teams who primarily focus on practices and games out of that location.  Team formation and practice locations are dependent on numbers and practice schedule timing.  For more information about our programs at specific Rec locations, select the links below.

Electric City Rec Programs

All programs are dependent on the birth year.  For example, in the 2022/2023 season, players who were born in the year 2017 would be considered 6U no matter what age they are when the season starts.  Please see the player age eligibility chart on our registration info tab to see which age group your player would qualify for.

4U / MDM

The MDM program introduces some fun educational games in a family-orientated environment. It’s a program where players and their guardians learn to love soccer together.

At this age, we will be focusing on motor skill development, balance as well as eye-hand and foot-eye coordination.  Each 45 minute session also helps develop your loved one’s social and emotional skills through teamwork and positive activities. Imagine you interacting with your son or daughter, helping them learn how to share and how to empower them to grow in an activity.  You will be amazed at the happiness a FUN family game can bring the little ones.  All equipment is provided by the trainer and the kid’s shirt is included in the fees. Guardians can purchase a shirt during registration if desired.

6U

The 6U program is an in-house program that is the next level up from MDM.  It also focuses on physical development, but includes more “soccer-like” exercises and some game-time.  Like 4U, guardians are encouraged to participate in the session and help the players learn the skills.  Each 6U session has group activities that all the players do together followed by a “game” session where the players have a chance to work together on a field and put their skills into practice.  We break the players into “teams” that play each other and ask the guardians who are attending to participate and help the players organize their game.  Each player receives a team shirt as a part of their fees. Shin guards and a size 3 ball are needed for the activities.

8U Recreational Soccer

Our 8U teams participate in the East Central Soccer Recreation League.  We play teams around the Fox Valley approximately once a week (scheduling is dependent on holidays and field availability).  Players are formed into teams and meet once a week to practice soccer skills and prepare for the game.  Parent volunteers provide the game-day coaching (substitutes and organizing the kids). Group training sessions are organized each week and led by an Electric City trainer, but time is set aside each training session for coaches to organize specific training with their team.

There are typically 6-8 players on a 8U team.  The 8U game is played 4v4 with no goalie and a small goal.  The purpose of this is to allow all the players on the field a chance to touch the ball and participate in the game. Dribbling and individual skill are developed on this field.  Players will receive a team shirt as a part of the program.  Each player needs their own shin guards and size 3 ball.

10U Recreational Soccer

10U teams participate in the East Central Soccer Recreation League.  We play teams around the Fox Valley approximately once a week (scheduling is dependent on holidays and field availability).  Players are formed into teams and meet once a week to practice soccer skills and prepare for the game.  Parent volunteers provide the game-day coaching (substitutes and organizing the kids). Training sessions are organized by Electric City and can include a paid trainer.

There are typically 10-12 players on a 10U team.  The 10U game is played 7v7 with 6 outfield players and a goalie and a mid-sized goal.  The larger field and larger number of players encourages different skill development.  Passing and teamwork become more important in order to move the ball up the field and score.  Players will receive a team shirt as a part of the program.  Each player needs their own shin guards and a size 4 ball.

12U Recreational Soccer (dependent on registration numbers)

12U teams participate in the East Central Soccer Recreation League.

There are typically 12-15 players on a 12U team.  The 12U game is played 9v9 with 8 outfield players and a goalie and a larger-sized goal.  Players at this level are developing physically and are becoming much stronger. Along with passing and teamwork, positions and tactics become important to understand how to operate as a team both on defense and offense.  Players will receive a team shirt as a part of the program.  Each player needs their own shin guards and a size 4 ball.
